Milton Shade Tree Committee meets new DPW director, charts tree-planting path forward. The committee welcomed DPW Director Tom McCarthy and discussed accelerating tree plantings to meet a 150-tree annual goal after only 50 trees were planted this spring. McCarthy proposed ordering 75 trees each season instead of the previous 100 spring and 50 fall schedule, and agreed to shift $40,000 of tree funding from the capital budget to DPW operations.
The committee assigned volunteers to water newly planted elm trees and discussed staffing challenges tied to the tree crew's dual responsibility for trash collection and tree maintenance.
