Shade Tree Advisory Committee approves new tree order, budgets $40K for planting

Shade Tree Advisory Committee · Meeting of March 17, 2026

MILTON — Shade Tree Advisory Committee endorses spring planting strategy using nine tree species. The committee confirmed $40,000 in available funding from DPW, municipal line item, and Copeland Foundation sources to support the first batch of 45 trees ordered around April 1. Co-Chair Fred Taylor reported the Department of Public Works will handle ordering from a list designed to reduce disease vulnerability by increasing species diversity.

Ex-Officio member Branch B. Lane noted that $300,000 in potential Conservation Commission funds from a Memory Care development may supplement future planting, pending alternative disbursement arrangements. A joint STAC-DPW-CYVL meeting on March 19 will address a street-by-street tree inventory using mobile imaging and artificial intelligence.
