MILTON — Warrant Committee examines $2.5M fiscal 2027 shortfall, driven by health insurance costs and school salary requests. Chair James H. "Jay" Fundling presented his own proposal for using the Operating Budget Stabilization Fund and scheduling a tax override for 2029 rather than 2030, stressing his ideas represented only his personal analysis.
Fundling suggested the town contribute $500,000 in free cash to the School Department's circuit breaker fund to reduce pressure on school budgets. Committee members discussed teacher compensation and state aid shortfalls, with LeeMichael McLean noting that eventually the Committee must recommend to town meeting that Milton's fiscal position resulted from a budget forecasting error. The Committee deferred any formal vote on override timing pending completion of definitive budget figures.
