MILTON — Warrant Committee examines budget shortfall and assigns warrant monitors. Chair Jay Fundling presented analysis showing health care inflation at 10 percent and school cost growth at 5.2 percent, or $1.9 million, exposing inconsistencies in earlier projections that had assumed smaller increases. Free cash stands at $4.5 million, with Fundling proposing to allocate $1 million to the stabilization fund and draw $250,000 annually.
Fire Chief Madden reported Milton's fire budget runs approximately $1 million below comparably sized neighboring towns. The Committee assigned members to monitor seven non-budget warrant articles ahead of Annual Town Meeting, with the Atherton Street fire station project drawing scrutiny for its necessity and timing.
