Milton Warrant Committee authorizes chair to sign off on end-of-year fund transfers

MILTON -- June 16, 2026, Milton's Warrant Committee voted to designate its chair as sole signatory for end-of-year fund transfers and received a detailed briefing on a possible town acquisition of the Lasell College campus at 303 Adams Street. Town Administrator Nick Milano told the committee that the snow and ice budget ran over appropriation this year but that approximately $250,000 in state supplemental aid, plus potential FEMA reimbursements, could reduce the shortfall the town must cover internally; all transfers must be approved by July 15. On the Lasell property, a 4.7-acre, 50,000-square-foot site, Milano said cost estimates from an architect hired by the school building committee are expected by late July, which would allow the Select Board to decide whether to place a purchase article on a fall town meeting tentatively set for October 19. The committee's year-end self-review surfaced calls for mandatory written cost analyses on capital expenditures, prompted by a $700,000 truck purchase that one member said had no written payback analysis, and a proposed strategic scoring framework for warrant articles developed by member Grace.
