Town Meeting · Meeting of October 19, 2026
Milton's Special Town Meeting approved a $11.75 million purchase of the former Labore College property, 168-45, sending the land deal to a December 15 debt-exclusion vote. Select Board Chair Winston Daly called the 4.77-acre parcel a rare chance for the town to "control" its own future, while Warrant Committee Chair Jay Fundling estimated the purchase would add about $900,000 a year in debt service. Opponents including Kevin Donahue and Bill White argued the touted $30 million savings compared a middle school to a smaller early-childhood project, warning the vote could jeopardize the town's existing Gile Road school plan, which carries a $51 million MSBA commitment.
Precinct 7 member Cindy Christensen separately disputed the town's enrollment-based classroom projections, saying she had raised the same concerns with the MSBA seven months earlier without resolution. Town Meeting also approved $300,000 in Community Preservation Act funds toward a $1.45 million Tucker School playground renovation and a zoning change raising MBTA Communities affordable-housing requirements to 15 percent.
