MILTON — The Milton Climate Action Planning Committee voted to recommend the Select Board adopt a municipal decarbonization roadmap and a zero-emission vehicle policy ahead of a June 30 state deadline. Municipal Energy Manager Kai Miller said achieving "Climate Leader Community" status could unlock up to $1 million in state funding plus $150,000 in technical assistance. The roadmap found Milton High School heat pump conversion could cost "very, very, very high, $50 million," while quick HVAC fixes identified in a separate study could save roughly $40,000 annually, about 2 percent of the town's energy costs.
The vehicle policy would prioritize electric vehicles for most of the town's 197-vehicle fleet, with 11 light-duty replacements anticipated by 2030. Both votes passed unanimously.
