Milton Conservation Commission Imposes Daily $300 Fine on Riverside Avenue Property Owners

MILTON — May 12, 2026 — Milton Conservation Commission votes to impose a $300-per-day fine on owners of 45 Riverside Avenue for unpermitted wetland work. The five-member commission voted unanimously Tuesday after six months of failed outreach to owners who rehabbed a house and cleared trees within the commission's jurisdictional area without filing a required Notice of Intent — two separate violations. Chair John Kiernan noted that a prior single $300 fine is already recorded at the registry of deeds as a lien on the property, citing a precedent in which a similar fine accumulated to $75,000 before it was paid at a 2015 closing. "We've given notice six ways to Sunday, including service by a constable," Kiernan said. The commission also unanimously issued a negative determination for the Glover School PTO's native tree planting project and granted a one-year permit extension to Steve Conley for tree planting at Pope's Pond, and continued two cases — a failing septic system at 71 Ford Ranch Road and a stalled house project at 1387 Brushhill Road — to a May 16 site visit.
