Milton School Finance Subcommittee Raises Bus Fee $40, Holds Club Charges Flat for FY27
School Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Milton's school finance subcommittee voted to raise the non-mandated student bus fee by $40 per student for FY27 and approved a 10 percent increase to building-use fees for outside groups, while leaving the high school's per-club activity fee unchanged. Finance Director Katie told the panel that improved fee-collection practices at the high school had driven student activity revenue from a projected $7,500 to an actual $22,000, making a club fee increase unnecessary to hit the administration's $75,000 fee-revenue target. Subcommittee member Mark had initially proposed a $35 increase to transportation — then moved to $50 — before accepting a friendly amendment to land at $40, bringing the per-student fee from $325 to $365.
The subcommittee also separately approved previously reviewed Milton Community Schools fee increases on a unanimous 3-0 vote. Members noted the transportation contract carries an 8 percent cost increase in both FY27 and FY28, with a fuel surcharge passed through from the bus company, and acknowledged another fee increase is likely next year.
