Milton Warrant Committee Sends Historic Demolition Bylaw Back for Further Study

Milton's Warrant Committee referred a proposed demolition definition back for further study and approved a $1 million fire station design article. The committee voted 8-0-2 on March 11 to send back a Historic Commission proposal that would have defined demolition under Bylaw 163 to include destruction of any portion of a building, not just total teardowns — a change sought by the building commissioner after a 2023 request for clearer guidance. The committee separately backed a $1 million appropriation for Atherton Fire Station design work and unanimously recommended five solar-related articles, following a member financial analysis showing town ownership of solar panels — estimated at roughly $500,000 net of federal incentives — would yield about $810,000 in net present value over 20 years compared with $350,000 under a lease.
