Other Committee · Meeting of June 29, 2026

Milton's Budget Coordination Committee got a Town Counsel opinion on who owns the town meeting warrant budget. The committee, meeting June 29 with 11 of 15 members having answered an internal scheduling survey, heard that "it is the Warrant Committee's budget that is submitted," though the underlying numbers originate as the Select Board's own budget, approved and voted by that board. One member flagged that Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 74, Section 34 gives the School Committee separate "bottom-line budget" authority, an implication the panel said it would revisit in August.

Member Roy Walker reported survey respondents are trending away from 8 a.m. meetings, with Tuesday at 10 a.m. the early favorite among six responses. Departing member Brian, who said he is moving in about three weeks, was thanked for his service and offered to return in the fall to discuss cost-analysis ideas he sent to colleagues Megan and Leroy. The committee closed on a 6-0 roll-call vote to adjourn.
