MILTON — The Milton Budget Coordination Committee reported a $4.2 million fiscal 2026 revenue surplus and rolled out a faster budget calendar for fiscal 2028. Town Administrator Nick said building permit fees beat forecast by nearly $950,000, interest income by about $1 million, and motor vehicle excise tax by roughly $875,000, while departments underspent by about $1.8 million. Chair Megan Haggerty, a Select Board member, said the goal is for the town to issue budget targets by October instead of January.

Schools' new director of finance, James Malloy, said reserve accounts including the circuit breaker fund are "in the direction that they need to be, where they're being replenished." Warrant Committee member Nick Tagney said the panel wants earlier notice on "non-budget related items" like zoning and bylaw changes. No formal votes were taken on budget matters.
