Milton Select Board Unanimously Approves Town-Wide Traffic Calming Master Plan Contract

MILTON -- April 7, 2026, Milton Select Board unanimously approves a town-wide traffic calming master plan with consulting firm Tool Design and votes to object to a Keno monitor installation at a local convenience store. The board voted 5-0 to retain Tool Design, a Boston-based engineering and planning firm led by professional engineer Erica Guidoboni and certified planner Katrina Meyer, for a 10-month engagement that will produce a street-type toolkit, a prioritized near-term road map, and a decision-making policy for the town's Traffic Commission. The vote came the same evening DPW Director Marina Fernandez, who is departing the town at month's end, presented a sobering capital paving overview showing Milton's Road Surface Rating has declined from 64.85 in 2022 to 61.88 in 2025 and that restoring the full 97-mile road network to good condition would cost an estimated $22.5 million for surface work alone, a figure that excludes sidewalks, drainage, and utilities. The board also voted 5-0 to send a letter to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission objecting to the installation of a Keno monitor screen at Milton Food Mart, with members citing the growth of gambling as a community concern and noting a Friday deadline for written objection.
