Other Committee · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Milton's Zoning Board of Appeals approved a commercial sign, a home addition and a garage variance in a single session. Chair Kathleen O'Donnell led the board through three unanimous decisions, including a 3-0 vote granting a variance for a detached garage at 247 Adams Street, the board's first decision under a newly relaxed state "practical difficulty" standard. Attorney Ned Corcoran argued the property's roughly 60-foot elevation drop made any other garage location impractical.

The board also approved a revised commercial sign for the Garner School at 675 Blue Hill Avenue after the applicant eliminated the need for a variance, and approved an 8.3-foot rear-setback addition at 2 Berlin Avenue for applicants Lauren and Patrick Kenny, backed by letters from four neighboring households. "I can't just rubber stamp something that I've done 27 times," O'Donnell said of drafting the Adams Street decision.
