MILTON — The Milton Planning Board debated whether it should lead reuse planning for the La Barre property and approved an accessory dwelling unit at 599 Adams Street. Member Margaret Oldfield said forming a Select Board advisory committee on the property's fate "at this time felt too premature," warning it could confuse voters ahead of a town-wide vote expected in December on the $11.75 million purchase. Oldfield estimated carrying costs could reach "like a million dollars" a year while the property's use is studied.
Secretary Cheryl Tougias circulated her own six-step community engagement proposal, drawing on what she called a flawed public process around the East Milton Fire Station RFP. Member Hal Munger said the board, which includes "two architects" and members with construction and real estate experience, should take the lead rather than create another committee. The board voted unanimously to approve the 615-square-foot ADU after Tougias recused herself over a prior professional relationship with the applicants.
