Planning Board · Meeting of October 1, 2026

Milton Planning Board approved an accessory dwelling unit on Adams Street and pushed back on a Select Board plan for reuse planning on a property the town may buy for a school. Members voted unanimously to approve the 615-square-foot ADU at 599 Adams Street, with Chair Meredith Hall recused over a prior relationship with the applicants. Separately, member Margaret Oldfield said she told the Select Board an advisory committee studying alternate uses for the prospective acquisition "felt too premature" and overlaps with the Planning Board's own authority.

Board members estimated the purchase could carry roughly $1 million a year in combined utility and loan-interest costs if the town borrows $11.75 million, against $6.5 million in reported free cash. On a separate short-term rental bylaw, Planning Director Liz said roughly 13 policy questions remain unresolved, including who will administer the program, with one member noting "it appears that no one's volunteered yet."
