Planning Board Sends Housing Rule to Town Meeting
Milton Planning Board voted to send a bylaw amendment locking in a 15 percent affordable-housing requirement for MBTA Communities developments to fall town meeting.
Planning Board · Meeting of August 27, 2026
Milton Planning Board voted to send a bylaw amendment locking in a 15 percent affordable-housing requirement for MBTA Communities developments to fall town meeting. Planning Director Liz Manning said the Metropolitan Area Planning Council's feasibility analysis, approved by the state Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities in late July, cleared the town to raise the threshold from 10 percent. The board also spent roughly an hour discussing a decade-vacant parcel at 9 Thatcher Street under the Brook Road Overlay District, with owner representative Marion McKettrick and architect Dennis Greenwood outlining zoning constraints; member Margaret Oldfield asked, "is this going to be the new norm" for the board to workshop zoning with individual owners.
No vote was taken on Brook Road. The board separately approved about $500 for translation services and deferred comment on three East Milton fire station reuse proposals pending Select Board interviews August 31.
