MILTON — The Milton School Committee debated for nearly 40 minutes whether to keep studying the town's Labore property as a school site, ahead of a $11.75 million purchase article at Fall Town Meeting, but took no vote. Chair Loring said the committee will decide its recommendation October 7. Member Nathan warned "multitasking a school building project is very, very risky," citing the district's ongoing Gile Road seventh and eighth grade project through the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
Separately, the committee voted unanimously to support Warrant Article 4, directing $300,000 in Community Preservation Committee funds toward the $1.4 million Tucker Playground renovation, and approved a Milton High School Music Department trip to Orlando, Florida for roughly 120 students, February 3-6, 2027. Director of Human Resources Dr. Christine Lyons reported hiring of Black and African American staff has risen over the past two years, though the district remains predominantly white.
