Fire Panel Backs Smaller Garage Design
The Milton Fire Station Building Committee picked a smaller, cheaper design for the Atherton Street fire station's new apparatus bays.
Other Committee 2026-09-22 Part 2 · Meeting of September 22, 2026
MILTON — The Milton Fire Station Building Committee picked a smaller, cheaper design for the Atherton Street fire station's new apparatus bays. Chair Brian Bowles presented estimates showing the "original with garage" option at about $19.1 million in total project cost, versus $19.96 million and $19.26 million for two more extensive redesigns, a roughly $900,000 spread. Planning Board member Cheryl Tegayes, speaking as an architect, said the smaller option "downplays" the addition and preserves the historic station's prominence; a Historical Commission member called the costlier alternative's roofline reminiscent of "a camp out of the 1950s." Members voted 8-1, with Philippe dissenting, to approve monthly contractor payments including $811,000 to DC Tower, and voted to approve $27,634.18 in change orders by roll call with one member abstaining, leaving about $160,000 in contingency.
The committee also approved new applicants David Cornish and Rob Losh and elected Mark Boyle vice chair.
