Milton Planning Board unanimously endorsed the Boston to Blue Hills multimodal project and advanced a long-running sign bylaw overhaul at its February 26 meeting. Senior MAPC planner Mara Holland and Neponset River Watershed Association Greenway Program Director Andres Serpley presented four years of community engagement and engineering data, reporting that Alternative 4 — a center-running path that narrows Blue Hills Parkway from two northbound lanes to one — drew nearly unanimous public support at a 75-person January workshop, reducing vehicle-pedestrian conflict points from 110 to 11. State crash records show roughly 50 collisions along the southern section of the parkway between January 2021 and March 2024, and speed data recorded vehicles traveling up to 50 mph in a 35-mph zone near Milton High School.

Board Chair Meredith Hall noted that a $200 million Chapter 90 parkway funding bill in the governor's proposed budget is a potential construction source with no direct cost to Milton taxpayers. Planning Director Liz Manning agreed to raise advocacy for a separate engineering study of the dangerous figure eight intersection north of Brook Road with town administration. The board also directed Town Counsel Carolyn Murray of KP Law to finalize a revised sign bylaw draft — capping principal signs at three per business, limiting sign appeals to dimensional variances only, and clarifying that the Zoning Board of Appeals may adopt Sign Review Committee findings — ahead of a tentative March 9 Warrant Committee presentation.
