MILTON — The Milton Planning Board weighed splitting its draft short-term rental bylaw into zoning, general bylaw and Board of Health regulation tracks, without voting on any option. Town Counsel Carolyn Murray said current residential zoning bars any "use not mentioned," meaning short-term rentals need an explicit zoning fix even under a general bylaw. Member Margaret Oldfield said residents she's spoken to "don't want turnover every single weekend" and would prefer a 30-day minimum stay; Murray said she'd be "strongly opposed" to a stopgap zoning ban floated for fall Town Meeting.
Separately, Community Preservation Committee liaison Hal Munger reported a record 22 applicants seeking $5.94 million of $1.2 million available this cycle, including $300,000 already advanced for Tucker Playground and a looming roughly $3 million ask for the Atherton Fire Station. The board also learned the Select Board deferred a decision on three East Milton fire station redevelopment proposals, only one offering a lease, until September.
